Mitohormesis Research
Evidence-Based Anti-Aging Interventions
The main focus of the Department of Human Nutrition is the biochemical and molecular basis of human diseases, specifically obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and cancer.
We are specifically interested in the role of mitochondria in regards to initiation and progression of the before mentioned disorders, and scientific approaches to prevent and ultimately treat these diseases.
We are focussing on a novel concept named mitochondrial hormesis (a.k.a. Mitohormesis), the potentially health-promoting role of oxidative stress, and its potential role in the prevention of aging-related diseases and extension of life span in both C.elegans and mammalian model organisms.
